Royal College of Music

A unique, bespoke audio visualisation installation to accompany a concert celebrating the launch of the Royal College of Music’s new branding

Challenge

We were commissioned by Landor to devise an animation inspired by the concepts behind the College's new branding. The animation was driven by a bespoke audio-analysis engine which reacted in real-time to different works of classical music, seemingly reflecting the 'emotions' of the piece.

Process

Working with a range of test-pieces, we developed algorithms to analyse specific aspects of classical music which let us simulate emotional response. Using these algorithms, we output parameters to drive an organic, flowing animation which responded instantly and spontaneously to music from a live audio feed.

The animation was displayed on large screens in the concert hall during the performance.
